Getting started: connect Nuira to Shopify

Learn how to connect your Shopify store to Nuira so your orders, product costs, and customers become profit-aware growth recommendations.

Updated: 3 September 2026

Shopify is the connection Nuira depends on most. Your orders and product costs are what turn advertising spend into a margin figure, so every recommendation Nuira makes about Meta Ads or Google Ads is built on top of this one. This guide walks you through connecting your store and getting your first recommendations.

Before you start

You’ll need admin access to your Shopify store. That’s it — you don’t need a Nuira account first, and you won’t be asked to type your store’s domain anywhere. Installing from the Shopify App Store tells Nuira which store you’re connecting.

Step 1: Install Nuira from the Shopify App Store

Open the Nuira listing on the Shopify App Store and click Install. You can also find it by searching the App Store from your own Shopify admin, under Apps.

Step 2: Approve the installation in Shopify

Shopify takes you straight to the approval screen and shows you what Nuira is requesting: read access to your orders, products, inventory, and customers (read_orders, read_all_orders, read_products, read_inventory, read_customers). Every scope is read-only. Nuira cannot edit products, change prices, touch inventory, or place or refund an order.

read_all_orders is what lifts Shopify’s 60-day limit on order history, so your margin figures have real history behind them from the first sync rather than starting from two months ago.

Review the request and approve the installation.

Step 3: Sign in and confirm the sync

After approving, Shopify sends you back to Nuira to finish up. Sign in if you already have a workspace, or create one — the page carries your install through sign-up, so you land back in the right place either way. Then pick which workspace this store belongs to and confirm.

Your Integrations page will show Shopify with a Connected badge, and Nuira will begin syncing in the background.

The first sync imports your full order history, not a fixed window: every order with its line items and totals, the cost per item recorded against each variant, and your customer records. After that, Nuira refreshes automatically every few hours and only pulls orders that changed since the last run, so later syncs are much faster than the first one.

Where Shopify records how a customer arrived, Nuira imports that journey too, and uses it to attribute revenue to the channel that earned it rather than splitting it evenly.

Step 4: Fill in the costs that are missing

Margin is only as good as the costs behind it. Nuira reads the cost per item field on each Shopify variant, and a variant with that field empty has no true margin Nuira can compute — it can only fall back to the economics you entered during onboarding.

Once your first sync finishes, it’s worth checking Shopify for variants with no cost recorded, especially your best sellers. Filling them in sharpens every recommendation that follows, because it changes which products and campaigns look profitable.

Step 5: Explore your recommendations

Open Recommendations in the sidebar. You’ll see a ranked list of suggested actions, ordered by estimated profit impact, with the number and the reasoning behind each one and a confidence level so you know how much weight to give it.

With Shopify connected on its own, Nuira can already tell you where your margin is going: which products sell below contribution margin, which discounts cost more than they earn. Connect Meta Ads and Google Ads and the same engine starts comparing spend against that margin, which is where the budget recommendations come from.

Nuira only recommends. It never applies a change to Shopify or to any other connected tool on your behalf: you decide what to act on, and you make the change in your own account.

Step 6: Review insights and sales attribution

Insights shows what’s changed recently across revenue, margin, and ad spend, while Sales breaks down where your revenue is coming from by channel. Use these views alongside your recommendations to understand the “why” behind each suggestion.

Disconnecting or reconnecting

If you ever need to reconnect or disconnect Shopify, go to Integrations, click the ··· menu in the top-right corner of the Shopify tile, and choose Reconnect or Disconnect. Disconnecting removes Nuira’s stored access to your store and stops future syncing, but does not delete historical data already imported. Reconnecting sends you back through the same Shopify approval screen for the store already on file — you won’t be asked which store it is.

If you removed Nuira from your Shopify admin entirely, install it again from the Shopify App Store as in Step 1.

Because the rest of Nuira’s recommendations are built on your Shopify margin, disconnecting this source degrades the paid-media recommendations too: spend figures survive, but there is no margin left to judge them against.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

Does Nuira change anything in my Shopify store?

No. The connection is read-only: Nuira requests read_orders, read_all_orders, read_products, read_inventory and read_customers, and has no write scope at all. It cannot edit products, change prices, fulfil orders or publish anything.

Do I need a Nuira account before installing?

No. Install from the Shopify App Store and approve the permissions first; Shopify then sends you to Nuira to sign in or create your workspace, and your install follows you through sign-up.

What happens if a variant has no cost per item?

Nuira cannot compute a true margin for that variant and falls back to the economics you entered during onboarding. Filling the cost per item field on your Shopify variants is the single highest-value thing you can do for recommendation quality.

How far back does the first sync go?

The first sync imports your full order history rather than a fixed window, so margin and trends have real history behind them from day one.

What happens to my data if I disconnect?

Disconnecting removes Nuira's stored access to your store from the Integrations page. To delete the synced data as well, use the account deletion flow — it removes the organisation and everything synced from connected platforms.

  • Read-only: never publishes or edits
  • Recommend-only: you decide and apply
